Berliner Abendpost - Crystal Palace vs Liverpool Live: Team News and Pre-Match Analysis

Crystal Palace welcome Liverpool to Selhurst Park for a Premier League fixture that underscores the contrasting pressures facing both managers at this stage of the season. With kickoff scheduled for 14:00, the match arrives amid intense scrutiny for Palace head coach Pierre Sage, who is desperate to arrest a slide into the relegation zone.

Nottingham Forest’s 3-1 victory over Manchester City on Saturday evening shifted the league table significantly, dropping Crystal Palace to 19th place. The hosts are now two points from safety, having conceded the most goals in the division with 21 in nine games. The urgency is compounded by a lackluster Europa League performance against Hoffenheim on Thursday night, where Daichi Kamada’s stoppage-time equalizer secured a 1-1 draw after a disjointed display.

On the other side of the pitch, Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola faces his own challenges following a challenging midweek. His team suffered a 3-2 defeat away to Fenerbahce in the Champions League, an error-prone loss that followed a 1-0 Premier League defeat to Arsenal on Merseyside last weekend. Despite these setbacks, Liverpool remain in sixth place, sitting just five points behind leaders Manchester City.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Iraola acknowledged the shift in mood following the two consecutive defeats. "I think that’s the challenge, especially in a club like Liverpool," he said. "One week ago in this same press conference, we were on a run, everything was in a good place and we were in a better mood. And now, two defeats, it changes. It has to change and it has to be like this in a club like ours. Now we have to react after two defeats."

Iraola has made five changes to the starting lineup compared to the side that faced Hoffenheim. Alexander Isak, Cody Gakpo, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, and Ronald Araujo all return to the XI. However, Ryan Gravenberch remains out of the squad due to a heel injury. Long-term absentees for Liverpool include Hugo Ekitike, Giovanni Leoni, Conor Bradley, and Jeremie Frimpong.

Palace have also reshuffled their ranks. Axel Disasi starts in place of Jaydee Canvot, while Jean-Philippe Mateta is unavailable due to the first match of a three-game domestic ban following his red card in the 2-0 defeat to Tottenham. Jorgen Strand Larsen leads the line in Mateta’s absence. Oscar Mingueza and Jefferson Lerma begin ahead of Anan Khalaili and Honest Ahanor.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, commenting on the stakes for the visitors, suggested that a failure to win would feel like a disappointing start to the season for the Reds. He emphasized that Liverpool must beat Crystal Palace to build momentum early in the campaign.

The match at Selhurst Park serves as a critical test of resilience for both sides. For Palace, it is a fight for survival; for Liverpool, it is an opportunity to stabilize their form after a turbulent week in European competition.
